... opportunities to worship

Throughout the year, special services commemorate seasons of the church calendar and specific events in the life of our church. This may be a special service or during regular Sunday worship.

The Sacraments

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is usually celebrated monthly during Sunday worship. Everyone is welcome to participate. Candlelight communion services are offered at other times, such as Advent.

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is celebrated throughout the year. Please call the church office to arrange a meeting with the minister.

Taizé

Taizé (pronounced tay-zay) is an international, ecumenical community in France founded in 1940 by Brother Roger. Taizé is an hour of quiet and contemplation using music and meditative singing to access the mystery of prayer and the inner life. With a few of Duncan United's finest (musicians and singers) at the helm, you are invited to come and worship with voice or just ears and of course with heart. Taizé provides an hour to be still and refill on the first Sunday evening of the month from October through May.

Confirmation and Membership

Youth and adult confirmation classes are offered once a year, usually in the spring. At the conclusion of the classes, new members are welcomed by confirmation during Sunday worship.

Those who wish to transfer their membership from another pastoral charge are asked to contact the church office. After we have obtained the membership records, new members will be welcomed during a Sunday service.

Lent and Easter, Advent and Christmas

During these much-anticipated seasons of the year, special services allow us to more fully experience and understand the significance of these events.

During Lent and Easter, there are services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday. In addition to the celebration of Easter morning during our regular Sunday worship, we also gather in celebration as the sun rises over Quamichan Lake.

During Advent and Christmas, candlelight communion provides a gentle and refreshing respite from the bustle of preparation. Carols by Candlelight is a tradition, as is the Longest Night service, acknowledging that, for many, Christmas is not a time of joy. On Christmas Eve, the coming of the Child is celebrated by all ages with Lessons and Carols.
